The SSI Assistant Instructor (AI) program is a professional-level course that bridges the gap between Divemaster and Open Water Instructor. It trains candidates to teach academic sessions, conduct pool/confined water training, and supervise Open Water Diver courses. Graduates can independently teach Try Scuba, Scuba Skills Update, and select specialty programs.
Key Program Details
- Duration: Approximately 30-42 hours, often structured over a few days or weekends.
- Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years old, certified as an SSI Divemaster (or equivalent), have a minimum of 60-75 logged dives, and current CPR/First Aid/O2 provider certification.
- Training Focus: Developing teaching skills, conducting briefings, and managing in-water training sessions.
- Flexibility: Includes digital learning materials for academics.
Qualifications Upon Completion
- Supervision: Directly supervise and evaluate surface skills during Open Water Diver training.
- Teaching: Independently conduct Try Scuba, Scuba Skills Update, and Perfect Buoyancy.
- Path Forward: Serves as the primary prerequisite for the Instructor Training Course (ITC).
Candidates are required to have their own full professional-level scuba equipment.
